Perfumes and deodorants are known for their fragrance and scent and have been used for centuries to mask unpleasant odors. They are used everyday by millions of people around the world; however, some people are extreme sensitive to these fragrances and can have serious allergic reactions to them, even causing them to become disabled.
Of late, perfumes are more do with allergy and deodorant irritation. Controlling the amount of fragrance intake for those sensitive to perfumes is easy when at home, but when embarking out into the public, it can be extremely risky for those who are sensitive.

Fragrances and perfume contain various chemicals and are found in perfume, cologne, soap, candles, cosmetics, skin lotions, and food. These fragrances can cause allergic reactions to those who are sensitive. These problems can include difficultly breathing, asthma and rashes.

Symptoms of Perfume Allergy

With thousands of body perfumes on the market consumers use these perfumes to make themselves feel or smell attractive. However, some people are extremely sensitive to these smells and the slightest perfume fragrance can cause them to have an allergic perfume outbreak. There are common symptoms to be aware of for you and others around you that may have a fragrance allergy or perfume allergy. These symptoms include but are not limited to headaches, nausea, difficulty breathing, hoarse voice or even loss of voice, tingling of the lips and skip, muscle and joint pain and even difficulty in concentrating.

Those who are already aware of pre-existing allergies can be prone to have irritation to perfumes. They should therefore consult a medical professional to identify the various types of reaction they may experience so that the physician can provide information to relieve symptoms or avoid exposure to that particular product or perfume. This will help those sensitive to perfumes be prepared for outbreaks that may occur.

Research has shown that perfumes and fragrances are respiratory irritants and those who have asthma can have adverse reactions to them. Studies also have shown that perfumes may actually be a cause of asthma. Those who are sensitive to perfumes and fragrances can become disabled when exposed to them and they cannot take part in normal activates. Symptoms include: migraines, nausea, and fatigue, along with allergy-like symptoms.

Allergenic Fragrances

Fragrances are used in varied products ranging from, food to products of personal hygiene, while many add only fragrance some in addition turn out to be allergens. Some of the common allergenic fragrances include chemicals such as amylcinnamic alcohol, anisyl alcohol, benzyl alcohol, benzyl salicylate, and natural products such as clove oil, nutmeg oil, odor of rose, and cinnamon oil. Allergenic fragrances result in rashes or swelling on surfaces of hands, arms and face.

Deodorant Allergy

Allergy that is caused in sensitive individuals owing to use of deodorants is known as deodorant allergy. Deodorant allergy is caused because some have allergy towards certain chemical compounds present in deodorants. It is fortunate that only a small amount of deodorants available in market have allergenic chemical compounds.

Diagnosis of Deodorant Allergy

Diagnosis of deodorant allergy is done through tests, one such test is the patch test. Here, a small adhesive strip containing a number of the most common allergens, which is applied to the skin and then left for the skin to react. If there are any allergens, the skin will respond by swelling or any other symptom-positively identifying the allergen. Other tests to identify allergens of the allergy deodorant include skin prick tests, and the general blood test.
